Guide
Driving in Czech Republic: what to check
The Czech Republic charges motorway use with a digital, plate-linked vignette for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes.
Who needs a Czech vignette?
Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes need a vignette on the tolled motorway network. Motorcycles are generally exempt, which is unusual in the region.
Where is the vignette required?
Only marked motorway sections are charged. Some sections near borders and around cities are excluded, and signage indicates where charging begins.
Vignette validity
Short products run for consecutive days from the selected start date and can be bought in advance.
Vehicle categories
Passenger vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes form the main category. Some low-emission vehicles have a reduced or zero rate under national rules.
How digital vignettes work
Validity is registered against the plate and checked by camera; no sticker is issued.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the vignette is needed on all Czech roads
- Buying a start date in the wrong time zone
- Registering a vehicle above the weight limit as a car
Additional toll roads
- Vehicles above 3.5 tonnes use an electronic distance-based toll system.
