Austria combines a national vignette with a handful of separately tolled alpine routes. Knowing which is which avoids an unpleasant surprise.

Two charges, not one
The vignette covers the general motorway and expressway network. Several alpine tunnels and mountain routes are run under their own toll and are paid separately, so a valid vignette is not always the end of the story.
Choosing a duration
Short products suit a single crossing; longer products make sense for a stay or repeated trips. Because validity runs in consecutive days, a return trip a fortnight later may need a second short product rather than one longer one.
Digital or sticker
The digital vignette is linked to your plate and needs nothing displayed in the vehicle. It cannot be transferred to another car later.
